Description

The village was named after Kaspakas who was a Byzantine admiral who lived in the reign of Alexios Komninos the 1st (1081-1118). In 1918 the village became an independent community in which since 1981 Agios Ioannis and Gali are recorded as separate settlements. Agios Ioannis, with its sandy beach and the strange cliffs - Meteora of Kaspakas – is presenting an intense tourist growth over the recent years. On the hill "Poliochni" close to Agios Ioannis, a prehistoric site has been identified. The priest Angelis Michelis has indicated the area as a location of archaeological interest since 1934.
